Kathy loves to walk with me when I take the camera out. She is an excellent spotter, much better than me. Last Christmas, I decided it was time she started carrying her own camera.
She outgrew the first body/lens that I bought her, so I decided on this: A Nikon D5500 and Nikon 70-300mm FX lens. The camera body is a cropped sensor, and the lens is a full frame lens. So, on the long end she ends up with 450mm.
She wanted a lightweight combo so it was easy for her to carry around. This combo is extremely lightweight; the body is .93 pounds and the lens just 1.5 pounds.

The autofocus and tracking on this combo is very fast, and VERY accurate. She rarely has an in-flight shot that is out of focus. And, at 450mm she has almost as much reach as my Nikon 200-500mm.

Did I mention she’s an excellent spotter? Many times we have gotten home, compared images, and she has shots that I didn’t even know were there.

I’m very proud and a little amazed at what she’s accomplished in such a short period of time. I love having her with me when we go hunting with our cameras.

Great captures, Kathy! I particularly like the Great Egret with his reflection.
